It's All About Layout

The adage of real estate being about “location, location, location” may need to be revised, if a survey from Century 21 is to believed.

The company found a home’s layout to be more important than location, with 27 per cent of respondents citing that as the primary consideration when selecting a home, ahead of 26 per cent for the desirability of the community.

“It’s well known that home buying is an emotional process, so understanding the shifts in where buyers place value is key to a sellers’ success,” says Todd Shyiak, national director of operations, Century 21 Canada.

“Location is still important to today’s home buyers, but the sheer volume of information available has made them more aware of how a home’s features can impact their lifestyle.”

In a Century 21 survey, more than a quarter of respondents cited a home’s layout as the primary consideration when choosing a home.

Other findings include a preference for energy-saving upgrades over cosmetic ones. And boomers favoured homes that wouldn’t cost them time or money in the long run, while millennials were more seduced by a home’s size.
