Burquitlam: A hub between cities

Like the union of a celebrity couple, the names “Burnaby” and “Coquitlam” were united to create the name “Burquitlam,” the area where these cities meet. Also sometimes called West Coquitlam, Burquitlam more recently became home to Burquitlam Station, putting its residents close to some of the province’s best educational institutions and exciting shopping opportunities, making it a very attractive place to live.

IN THE AREA
This is an area in flux, and the vibe is one of excitement about what the future holds. People investing in this area are attracted by the newer developments and the recently built Burquitlam Station, which makes it that much easier to get to and from this neighbourhood.

Burquitlam promises a variety of shopping opportunities, offering
close proximity to Burnaby’s Lougheed Town Centre, which is currently being renovated and set to offer a new dining area later this year, and nearby New Westminster Quay along the Fraser River. When you add wonderful parks, such as Burnaby Lake and Como Lake, and the malls and shops already in this neighbourhood, you can see what all the buzz is about.

PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES
When Burquitlam Station opened in 2016 as part of the Evergreen Extension, it redefined the transportation landscape in Burquitlam, offering one of the most convenient ways to get around, whether commuting to and from downtown or Burnaby or elsewhere in the Tri-Cities. This station gives neighbourhood residents easy access to Simon
Fraser University (SFU) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), plus it aligns with Clarke Road and grants access to rapid bus service to Lougheed Town Centre Station – all reasons why it’s so convenient.

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE REST
As it stands now, Burquitlam is conveniently saddling two cities: Burnaby and Coquitlam. As such, current residents of the area have relatively easy access to the services offered by either city. Thanks to the Evergreen Extension, this location is all the more convenient, and builders are banking on it: There’s a lot of development under way right now and a lot more growth to behold.
