2013 Boffo company profile

There’s nothing the Boffo team loves more than a creative challenge, and the opportunity to create something truly unique in the Lower Mainland’s residential landscape. They set the bar of quality and innovation high, and for 40 years, they’ve been delivering homes that not only live up to those self-imposed standards but surpass them. Boffo’s list of accolades is substantial — including recognition at the municipal, provincial and national levels. Most recently, the appropriately named Jewel in Metrotown won a prestigious UDI Award of Excellence for Best Suburban Highrise after already taking home gold in the Best Highrise category at both the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association Ovation Awards and the National SAM Awards. It was also a three-time finalist in the provincial Georgie Awards.

Karen West, sales and marketing director, says it’s the company’s focus on providing exquisitely appointed, larger than average homes that makes Boffo stand out among the competition. “Rather than attempt to appeal to as many people as possible, we focus on the property-savvy purchaser who knows exactly what they want and has no intention of compromising on quality or luxury. The success of this strategy is evident when you consider the two Jewel towers have very few resales and, in fact, there’s a waiting list of people who want to buy there.”

Part of the Neighbourhood
Boffo’s recent move to brand new corporate offices put a distinctive spin on what it means to be “one of the neighbours.” Located on the second level of Firma, a now sold out collection of 26 executive-style condominiums, this new home is a bold statement of vision and forward thinking. “After 30 years in the same office just a block away, we are definitely part of the Heights community,” Karen explains. “Firma was planned and designed with an eye to the neighbourhood.”

Looking Ahead
The coming year is shaping up to be a busy one at Boffo. Marking the company’s long awaited return to South Surrey, Adagio is a collection of 102 lowrise condominium homes that builds on the success of Sereno which took home a gold Georgie Award as BC’s Best Townhouse Community when it was built in 2007.
“Boffo has also headed to downtown Vancouver,” Karen says, adding that last year the company purchased three, very prominent sites in the downtown core. “Artemisia, a six-storey concrete midrise at Hornby and Helmcken is the first project. Construction is now well underway and 75 per cent of the homes are already sold. We will also be launching an iconic highrise at Smithe and Cambie within the next year, and a Yaletown location at a later date.”

Even with so much on the horizon, the Boffo team still maintains a deep connection to Burnaby. So it’s no surprise there’s also a new Burnaby community that is currently in the rezoning process. Modello will be located at Beresford and Willingdon, just two blocks from Jewel, and will incorporate what Karen describes as a significant retail/commercial/office component in addition to a high-end, landmark residential tower.

“Modello will mark the entrance to the City of Burnaby’s new public art walk community that’s part of the City’s anticipated Metrotown Area Plan,” she says, adding it will be a design by Chris Dikeakos Architects. “The City has some really progressive things in store for the Metrotown/Central Park area — and we’re excited that Modello will be a part of it.”

Built for Real People
“We build all our homes with the end user in mind — real people who want to live in and love their homes for many years,” Karen stresses. “At Boffo, our goal is to make the entire home purchasing experience, every brand touch point — from the first time a buyer walks into the sales centre to the day they get their keys — to be the best it can possibly be. It’s all part of being BC’s Boutique Home Builder™.”
