Opening their doors March 2012, artspace children’s arts centre will offer the highest quality programs in visual arts, music, dance and theatre.

artspace is a brand new facility in Burnaby Heights that offers inspiring visual and performing arts classes for children ages 6 months to 12 years. The fun-filled dance, theatre, music, and visual arts classes are designed to nurture young minds by encouraging exploration and creativity.

Studies show that early participation in the arts promotes academic achievement, self confidence and positive social behavior. artspace offers rich and diverse learning experiences that nurture a child’s intellectual, social and physical growth.

“Children who are given opportunities to create and explore through the arts develop strong problem-solving and design-thinking skills that are essential to their lives in the 21st century,” explains Winnie Tam, founder and director of artspace. “Artistic expression and exploration allow children to experience the world in new and expansive ways.”

Classes at artspace are small to ensure a rich learning experience for children, and are taught by professional arts educators who are gifted artists in their own right. There are many schedule options to accommodate busy families. Each term, children can either repeat the same class to master new skills, or they can try a new class to experience a different art form.

artspace will occupy a modern 3,000-square-foot ground floor facility at Firma, with three separate studios designed specifically for children.

“We are very excited about our new space. It is the perfect location, and the building itself is going to be first-class, “ says Tam.

The visual arts studio is stocked with high quality art supplies and materials for painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking and cartooning. The music and drama studio features an array of percussion instruments for musical exploration and props for dramatic play and musical theatre. The dance studio is where children can express themselves through rhythm, movement and dance.

artspace also offers birthday parties, school workshops, and art camps.
