Profile and Q+A – Trepp Design Inc
Trepp Design Inc (TDI) is a Vancouver-based interior design firm led by the tremendously talented Scott Trepp. The team delivers distinctive solutions customized to meet unique interior design needs for residential, multi-family and commercial projects. Their inspired designs always offer a timeless and sophisticated look and feel for a wide range of clients.
We managed to get some Q+A time with Scott, and we are pleased to share his thoughts and insights to some of the questions we asked him.
Q – In three words, how would you describe your overall design style?
A – Architectural, clean, streamlined and lux. I know that you only asked for three but hey, I’ve never claimed to be succinct.
Q – Would you say your style has changed/evolved over the years? If yes, how?
A – All in all I think we are quite true to our aesthetic of timeless, modern classicism, but like all creatives, we are shaped by the times in which we are living. So when current styles turn to the more decorative we similarly tend to add a bit more “gilding” to our work. This may mean increasing the detailing in wood paneled walls or adding a touch of velvet. But don’t get me wrong…regardless of the times, we’re not designers that fill a room with antiques.
Q – Where do you look for inspiration?
A – We find inspiration all around us – sometimes in the most unexpected places. Sometimes it is as literal as the architecture of a building that we are working on or see on social media; other times it’s from a source as random as the line of a shadow cast by the angle of the fall sun or the color of flowers that we’ve received in the office.
Q – Is there a particular destination (city or country) that has offered you significant creative inspiration?
A – Personally I always find cities like London, Paris and New York creatively rewarding for their wealth of arts whether they be architecture, music, dance or fine art – but the natural landscape can be equally impressive and impactful. Sometimes a day at the beach (ideally one with a singular west coast sunset) can be both inspiring and mind clearing.
Q – Who do you look up to or admire in the design world?
A – I am a huge fan of Dutch designers whether they are architects, or designers of objects, fashion or interiors. My favourites include Piet Boon, Marcel Wanders, the Moooi collective, Martijn Koomen, Iris Van Herpen and, of course, Viktor & Rolf.
Q – What is one of your top design pet peeves?
A – There are no shortage of design pet peeves: pink-based neutrals with yellow-based neutrals, whites that don’t match, bad (read “overall diffuse”) lighting, sloppy details, things that look dirty after a day, compromises that look like after thoughts…and drivers who turn right from anything other than the right-most lane!!

Several of our homeowners have commissioned Scott and his team for interior design customizations for their future homes at The Smithe.
TDI has designed many notable projects throughout the Lower Mainland by other local developers such as Intracorp, Cressey, Marcon and Aspac.
