For builders and homebuyers, the phrase “made in Italy” is shorthand for quality, craftsmanship and elegance.
A new master-planned community in Burnaby promises to live up to that reputation with boutique, Italian-inspired homes and dynamic gathering places for friends and family.
Named after Bassano del Grappa, a town in northern Italy, Boffo Developments’ Bassano is designed to give residents the feeling of living in an intimate village in energetic, bustling Brentwood.
An intimate village experience
A 43-storey tower heralds the project’s arrival. The dramatically contoured spire in the sky, designed in collaboration with Arcadis, is the first building of four.
The initial 318 homes range in size from 649 square feet to 2,144 square feet. Residents will have access to a full-service concierge, a work-share lounge, a health club with the latest fitness equipment as well as sauna and steam room and a family lounge for entertaining. Equipped with a full kitchen and large dining table, the lounge opens onto a covered outdoor area, with firepits and a barbecue, inspired by Italian piazzas.
On the roof, a 3,800-square-foot terrace offers panoramic views and three separate patios. The design is in keeping with Bassano’s commitment to spaces that emphasize connection.
“We chose to not have the penthouse level floor for homes, but rather to design indoor and outdoor gathering spaces so that all homeowners throughout the building can appreciate the views from the top floor,” says Karen West, vice-president of marketing and sales for Boffo.

In total, Bassano will be home to four towers, built in three phases. Each stunning tower will have its own exclusive amenities, while enjoying access to shared spaces, such as a 23,000-square-foot park.
“We’re trying to create as much of a park-like setting as we can,” West says. Picnic tables, a bocce court, a children’s play area and a dog run will entertain and attract families, friends, residents and visitors alike. A path follows the perimeter of the community. “It will be a great place for people to go for a walk, for kids to learn how to ride on a scooter.”
The Market Café is another shared experience — not just for Bassano homeowners, but for the surrounding neighbourhood as well. “The intention is to address the current gap between Holdom and Brentwood SkyTrain stations, where there’s not much in the way of cafés or essentials,” she says.
The Market Café will be a place to grab a coffee or a bite and to buy groceries and essentials to enjoy at home.

A taste of Italy
Bassano’s Italian inspiration comes through in exceptionally designed interiors, with materials and finishings directly imported from Italy. Custom cabinetry, built-in wardrobe systems, backsplash slabs, integrated Bertazzoni appliances and Gessi kitchen and bathroom fixtures deliver an elegance that sets these homes apart from other multi-family offerings.
The Gessi fixtures are an elevated feature typically only found in single-family homes. “We are thrilled to include these as part of our offering,” says West. “Gessi is an Italian brand known for exceptional design and materials. They really add a true Italian flavour to the homes.”
The homes, interiors and all amenities are designed by long-standing Boffo collaborator Scott Trepp and his team at Trepp Design Inc. The homes are offered in two colour palettes — “chiaro” (light) and “scuro” (dark) — named after chiaroscuro, the Italian word for a Renaissance painting technique used to enhance contrasts.
The architecture and exterior façades of the building are inspired by Italian colours and materials, creating a dramatic form of warm metal panels, expressive copper-veined surfaces and prominent glass.
The Boffo legacy
Bassano is a special project to the Boffo family. The development celebrates the return of the local builder to Burnaby — where the company built its first homes more than 50 years ago. Since then, the company has earned an ironclad reputation for crafting communities with an emphasis on design, livability and social integrity. Their notable projects in Burnaby include award-winning Modello and the Jewel towers in Metrotown.
“This is the largest community that Boffo has embarked upon, and it’s fitting that it’s in Burnaby, where it originally all started,” West says. “We really wanted to tie that history together with the made-in-Italy authenticity of the family’s roots.”
Boffo holds a high regard for craftsmanship and a responsibility to the community. “Every building is a legacy they’re leaving behind,” West says.
