Construction Safety Officer
Boffo Developments Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a qualified individual to join our construction team.
Over the past 50 years, Boffo has built thousands of homes and has earned a reputation for developing exceptional residential communities throughout the Lower Mainland.
The Construction Safety Officer will work closely with the Site Superintendents to enforce health and safety policies and WorkSafe OH&S regulations on our high-rise construction site. The CSO is also responsible for accurate compliance to OH&S legislation, ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel and administering first aid services as required.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure safety compliance is followed, in accordance with OHS requirements.
- Promote a culture of company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Respond to issues relating to health, safety, environment, emergency response, and safety management systems for site operations.
- Administer First Aid to site personnel as required.
- Lead site safety meetings and record meeting minutes
- Effectively lead and document toolbox meetings, monthly safety committee meetings, job hazard assessments, site safety audits and shut-down unsafe work.
- Conduct effective daily site safety inspections and maintain records.
- Submit daily, weekly and monthly safety reports.
- Identify hazardous areas and conduct investigations of accidents and near-miss incidents. Issue non-compliance notifications to trades.
- Coordinate with WorkSafe BC regarding site specific injury management
- Provide new worker orientations.
- Perform construction tasks on site – basic carpentry, build and maintain guard rails, general labour etc.
- Ticket for operating machinery such as bobcat/telehandler is an asset.
Requirements include:
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in a site safety role
- Valid OFA ticket Level 2 is required; OFA Level 3 is preferred.
- Construction Safety Officer Certification
- Experience in concrete high-rise towers
- Fall arrest training and familiar working at heights.
- Knowledge and ability to comply with all WorkSafe procedures and safety practices, including on-site work practices and guidelines.
- Excellent communication, organization skills with attention to detail
- Understanding of the construction process
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Full-time position, with extended hours including Saturdays as required.
- Must provide own transportation to site.
